Puddles

They formed underneath my clothes where I left them to dry.  I waited to run today until a friend got home from work.  I was glad to wait and I wasn't.  The bad news is that it looked like this outside:
Like this, except if you are on the other side of the glass.

The good news is that I had the best run I've had in a while.  The pace was relaxed but steady.  We ran through Audubon Park after dark - something that I would never do alone but have grown to appreciate with company.  The rain, cold & wind were a bit brutal at the start and I never fully regained feeling in my fingers until I took a shower.  But despite doubling the distance I had planned for the day, my legs felt fantastic.

With the Mercedes Marathon Sunday and a lot of missed runs behind me, I needed this little boost.  Now I can't wait to head to Birmingham.  But hopefully there I'll find less puddles.

Shorts & shoes.  A bit wet.

I may have *slightly* enhanced the puddles, but only to make their full glory more apparent.  How do you feel about running in the rain?

Dodged a Bullet

It's rainy today and after working an overnight shift I put my run off all day.  Having finally recovered enough for a run, I thought I might head over to the gym for my run to avoid the rain.  And then I remembered:  It's early January.

The healthcare worker in me thinks it's wonderful:  People take advantage of a new year to alter their habits and adopt a healthy, new lifestyle.  The gym rat in me knows that this lasts approximately 1 month, during which I get pissed off every time I head to the gym.  "Go walk your 40:00 mile outside!  And hang up your cell when you're on a treadmill!"

<Deep breath>

Outside it is.  I don't mind running in the rain.  And I don't care if everyone else doesn't like my singing.

Do You Believe in Magic?

Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera so I have to
settle on stealing borrowing someone else's picture.
One of my favorite phenomenons occurred this morning on my run and again this afternoon when biking over to the gym:  It rained while the sun was out.  I love that.  Perfect weather for rainbows.  I wasn't lucky enough to catch sight of one, but I hope someone did.  There's something magical about sunlight flashing through raindrops.  Kinda makes you want to dance.
